Siemens HC25 HSDPA Module Earns AT&T Certification

December 19, 2007

ATLANTA - Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. announced today that the HC25 HSDPA module for voice and data transmission, from its Wireless Modules group, is now certified by AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T). This certification will enable manufacturers who use the Siemens HC25 HSDPA module in M2M and mobile computing applications to certify and deploy their products on AT&T's 3G BroadbandConnect network.

"The HC25 radio module will enable our customers to launch their products far more quickly in the U.S. market," said Norbert Muhrer, president of Siemens Wireless Modules. "The integration and certification process for products employing radio modules is now faster and more cost effective than using a chipset solution. AT&T approval of Siemens HC25 HSDPA module, represents Siemens ongoing commitment to developing first-to-market data and voice module technology for the U.S. market."
The Siemens HC25 radio module underwent extensive AT&T lab and field tests to receive certification. Among other performance benchmarks, the module was analyzed for its registration time in the network, data transmission quality, and RF quality in combination with other components in the AT&T network. Siemens was also required to produce certifications from the Federal Communications Review Board (FCC) and PCS Type Certification Review Board (PTCRB) for the HC25.

Siemens' HC25 HSDPA module has a maximum throughput of 3.6Mbps, which is more than 10 times faster than GPRS technology, which has a theoretical maximum throughput of 128Kbps. HSDPA operates at speeds that compare with ADSL in terms of modem speed. AT&T's BroadbandConnect network provides users with typical average download speeds between 600Kbps (kilobits per second) and 1,400Kbps, and is available in more than 220 major metropolitan areas in the U.S. Siemens 3.6Mbps, HSDPA module introduction follows its earlier first-to-market introduction of the MC75 EDGE module, which received AT&T approval in early 2005.

The HC25 radio module combines High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) technology with a robust interface and mounting concept, and control via AT commands. This enables manufacturers to develop high-speed data applications such as gateways, Industrial PDA/Scanners, and routers quickly and efficiently. The module also features NDIS and RIL drivers as well as a USB 2.0 Full Speed interface to simplify and speed up the development of Windows(TM)-based applications, like Industrial PDAs.
In addition to AT&T's certification, the HC25 radio module has already been certified according to R&TTE and GCF and satisfies the regional standards in Africa, Asia, Europe, America and the Middle East. Additionally, it complies with the European Union's Restriction of Specific Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS) directive.
