Shimco Receives Prestigious AS9100D and Controlled Goods Program Certificates

Both involved rigorous effort and processes, proving Shimco’s commitment to high-quality standards.

CAMBRIDGE, Ontario September 11, 2018 – Shimco, an award-winning, world-wide leader in the manufacture of precision parts and gap-management solutions recently received two prestigious industry certificates: the AS9100D revised Quality Management System (QMS) standard for the aviation, space and defense sector based on ISO 9001:2015 (Shimco was previously certified under the AS9100C standard), and recertification under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program.

Both certifications involved rigorous effort and processes, proving Shimco’s commitment to high-quality standards in the manufacture of laminated metallic and non-metallic sheets, machining laminated and solid shims, taper fillers and detailed components, to customers’ high-tolerance specifications.

“Achieving these certifications involved a significant commitment in time and determination across all departments at Shimco,” said Soeb Puda, Shimco’s Director of Operations. “For the transition from AS9100C to AS9100D, a process that began mid last year, we needed to look at how we managed all potential risks in the company, looked more closely at our own supply base, considered the needs and impacts of our stakeholders and implemented more procedures to detect and isolate any potential counterfeit elements in our supply base. This certification is necessary to be part of the world-wide aerospace supply chain.”

“Our recertification under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program involved rigorous background checks and reviews of Shimco’s Designated Officials, in addition to initial and on-going screening and reviews of all Shimco employees,” added Peter Voss, Shimco’s President and CEO. “This recertification keeps the standard in the type of employees we employ at an elevated level, and is a requirement of long-term contracts for the supply of components for use in the manufacture and maintenance of military aircraft.

“I appreciate the instrumental efforts of Soeb and contributions from all Shimco employees in achieving these two very important industry certifications, that show our on-going commitment to our customers, suppliers, and the aerospace industry.”
