Sennebogen to Expand Manufacturing Capability by One Million Square Feet

Hebbelstrae, Straubing, Germany: Responding to continued strong growth in the global market for its specialized material handling machines, the SENNEBOGEN Group of Straubing, Germany has announced plans for a significant expansion of its manufacturing facilities. SENNEBOGEN will construct a new assembly plant for its extensive lines of material handling and lifting equipment on a site totaling more than 1 million sq. ft. (100,000 m²) in the Straubing-Sand industrial park, not far from the company's current headquarters in Hebbelstraße, Straubing.

The first phase of the project will see construction of a large new assembly operation with a total floor space area of more than 140,000 sq. ft. (13,000 m²). Additionally, there will be a complex of modern office buildings and meeting areas. These plans also ensure that space for the future growth of SENNEBOGEN within the Straubing-Sand industrial park will be available. According to Erich Sennebogen Jr, "This is the beginning of a new era for the company. Our products continue to make inroads around the globe and this investment in our future showcases our philosophy of leading through innovation."

A key feature of the new site is the amount of open-air space that will be available for assembling and testing machines. Some of the largest SENNEBOGEN machines currently being developed and delivered weigh over 485,000 lbs. (220 t) and can have a total extended boom length by as much as 410 ft. (125 m).

In recent years, SENNEBOGEN has invested in continuous product development, producing numerous technical innovations in material handlers and crane technology. The result is one of the most extensive product lines in material handling machines, ranging from 22,000 to nearly 500,000 lbs. net weight (10 to 220 t.) The products are sold and serviced by the company's own distribution companies and sales partners around the world.

Today, SENNEBOGEN employs about 1,000 people across its three production plants. Two equipment manufacturing facilities are located in Germany (Straubing and Wackersdorf) and a steel plant is located in Hungary. SENNEBOGEN America maintains a strategic parts warehouse in Charlotte, NC, which recently underwent a major expansion.

Growing global demand for large material handling and lifting machinery as well as the very positive development in SENNEBOGEN sales over recent years, led to the decision to construct a new plant designed especially for large machinery.

Although the Straubing-Sand site offered no special incentives for SENNEBOGEN to build there, and while other industrial premises were available at considerably lower cost, Walter Sennebogen, a Managing Director, cited several reasons for choosing this location:

oIts proximity to the original plant in Straubing facilitates communication and logistics within the firm
oThe firm's previous experience of staffing in the region means that it can expect a seamless start to the operation
oIts tri-modal logistical access (road, rail and water) has become increasingly significant for the SENNEBOGEN machines as they grow in size

The site in Hebbelstrae, Straubing will continue to be the firm's headquarters and will provide various production areas. Since the company's founding in 1952, the SENNEBOGEN family business has seen continuous development from the manufacturing of agricultural machinery to global leadership in material handling and specialized equipment. To date, SENNEBOGEN has produced over 30,000 units of all types for use around the world. "An important cornerstone of our ongoing success has been the continuous development of the company's committed and motivated personnel around the world," said Erich Sennebogen Sr, the company's founder.

Construction of the new factory premises is due to start in the spring of this year. Production is scheduled to start at the beginning of 2008.

Based in Charlotte, North Carolina, SENNEBOGEN America offers a complete range of purpose-built machines to suit virtually any heavy lift or "pick & carry" application. A growing network of distributors supports SENNEBOGEN sales and service across the Americas, ensuring the highest standard of professional machine support and parts availability.
