Selco's Value-Added Department Expands to Meet Growing OEM Demands for Plug-n-Play Customized Thermal Components

Automated Equipment and One-Week Lead Time Enhance List of Customized Services

ANAHEIM, Calif. - Dec. 31, 2007 - Selco Products has announced expansion of its Value-Added Services Department to keep up with the fast-accelerating demand from OEMs for fully assembled, ready-to-install customized thermal components in a variety of configurations. Customization is available for Selco's complete line of thermostats, thermistors, thermal cut-outs, and thermal protectors.

Expansion highlights include availability of one-week lead time for expedited order requests with a flat charge of only $100.00. Additionally, an ink jet and pad printers that allow part numbers and logos to be imprinted directly on the component have been added, eliminating the use of manually-placed stickers and speeding customization. And finally, a newly installed welding machine has automated this previously hand process to provide faster completion of soldered components and custom bracket configurations.

"A department focusing on this type of service was first conceived several years ago, and has really taken off the last few years," says Don Miller, Manager for Selco's Value-Added Services Department. "Once OEMs learn about this service and we solve one problem for them, they quickly see how we can solve many headaches for them. We have had to expand with equipment, people and space to keep up."

Special configurations completed in the customized assembly department include epoxy seal and over-mold, mylar sleeving, lead bending, connectors, brackets, wire and cable assembly, probe housings, and customer termination labeling/markings. These fully-assembled, ready-to-install components help customers speed production by eliminating assembly time and saving on the sourcing and designing costs associated with assembly work. OEMs looking for a special product requirement that will solve their problem can obtain a turn-key component that speeds their production line while saving on in-house labor costs.

"We're continually surprised at how a seemingly simple component modification can solve a major design problem for an OEM, explains Miller. We're set up to handle this with all the necessary equipment, parts and people - so we can provide a specialty component much more economically than if the OEM does it in-house."

Typical reasons why OEMs seek Selco's customized services include requirements for special switches specified in the product design, but not available as a stock component, special bracket configurations, overmolding to protect a product that will be exposed to water/moisture, and components that involve extensive soldering, crimping or cutting that would otherwise have to be done during the OEM's production process. "Regardless of the exact configuration needed, the recurring request is for a 'plug and play customized assembly' that solves a unique problem," sums up Miller.
