Seco to Showcase Several New Productivity Boosting Cutting Tools at TECMA 2013

TROY, Mich.- Manufacturers looking to optimize their machining operations through advanced metal cutting solutions will find what they are looking for at TECMA 2013 in Seco Tools Stand No. 664. The company will showcase a broad range of new cutting tools for milling, turning and holemaking applications that are designed to boost productivity and profitability. TECMA is taking place March 5-8 at Expo Bancomer Santa Fe in Mexico City.

For milling, Seco will showcase its Turbo 10 square shoulder mill paired with the all-new MK2050 insert grade featuring a unique high-hardness substrate, as well as its MiniMaster® Plus line of end mills with replaceable fluted inserts.

The Turbo 10 is ideal for most roughing, semi-finishing and finishing operations. It easily tackles slotting, contouring, helical interpolation and ramping applications with cutting diameters that range from 0.625" to 4" (16mm to 100mm) and a maximum cutting depth of 0.354" (9 mm). The cutter offers improved tool life and precision by optimizing cutting properties that reduce heat generation and cutting forces.

When used in conjunction with the MK2050 insert grade, the Turbo 10 achieves maximum levels of adaptability, accuracy and reliability in abrasive cast iron operations. The MK2050 brings long tool life and security to general engineering applications and automotive applications, such as engine block and cylinder head production. It works with and without coolant for all types of cast irons, including nodular cast irons.

The Minimaster Plus line of end mills with replaceable carbide inserts effectively tackle tough milling applications in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum and more. The lineup makes tool-length re-measurement obsolete and offers a large selection of inserts and shanks. Twenty-four versions of the shank are available, along with square shoulder and ball nose inserts that have through-tool coolant on all two- and three-flute designs for excellent cooling and efficient chip removal. Inserts come in two grades for machining versatility and E- and M-geometries for a smooth cutting design. Insert diameters range from 0.375" to 0.625" (10mm to 16mm) and corner radii are available from 0.0157" to 0.122" (0.4 mm to 3.1 mm) to match a variety of design requirements. Within the coming months, Seco will add new high-feed inserts to the Minimaster Plus line that feature three-flutes and are available in diameters 0.375", 0.500" and 0.625" (10 mm, 12mm and 16 mm).

For turning, Seco will display its new CBN010 uncoated polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) insert grade, as well as its Duratomic®-coated TK1001 and TK2001 insert grades. With Seco's exclusive Duratomic process, aluminum and oxygen are manipulated at the atomic level to create insert coatings with unmatched toughness and abrasion resistance.

CBN010 is perfect for finishing operations in hardened steels. It features a uniform microstructure that provides high resistance to edge chipping as well as increased reliability and tool life predictability. CBN010 is available in four insert formats: solid, full face, tipped and multi-tipped, all of which include several wiper options.

TK1001 and TK2001 bring speed, versatility and exceptional wear resistance to cast iron machining. TK1001 is a hard, fine-grained tungsten carbide grade with low binder phase content. Designed primarily for tackling gray cast iron up to semi-stable conditions and nodular cast iron under stable conditions, TK1001 also works on hardened steels in the 40 - 45 Rc range. TK2001 is a fine-grained tungsten carbide turning grade with high toughness. Mainly intended for machining nodular cast iron and handling gray cast iron on heavy interrupted cuts, TK2001 also offers strong performance in interrupted finishing operations. TK grades are available via 211 inserts in a wide variety of geometries and chip grooves, ensuring applicability across a broad range of operations.

For holemaking, Seco will showcase its Crownloc® Plus exchangeable tip drills that are designed to increase output and decrease machining costs. Crownloc Plus saves users money by incorporating several new features that yield high quality holes with less tool inventory and no regrinding or resetting costs. The line includes options for drilling holes ranging from .472" to .787" (12 mm to 20 mm) in diameter with 3xD, 5xD and 8xD cutting depths.
