Seagate and Orange Business Services UK Tackle Mobile Business Using Seagate's DAVE(TM) Technology

BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 12: 2007 3GSM SHOW -- Seagate Technology(R) (NYSE:STX) and Orange Business Services UK are joining efforts to ease the travails of the mobile professional. The companies have agreed to showcase Seagate's Digital Audio Video Experience(TM) (DAVE) for Orange enterprise customers, highlighting the enabling technology platform that provides substantial wireless storage capacity for digital files from mobile phones, PCs and other wireless-enabled devices.

The benefits of the modern mobile culture are tempered by the accompanying challenges facing the mobile professional, such as being cut off from key business documents and current corporate information in situations where carrying a laptop is impractical or inconvenient. An even greater threat is that with the loss of a mobile professional's smartphone, corporate data may also be lost.

The combination of Orange high-speed data services and DAVE mobile storage technology will provide a vital mobile data backup option, enabling professionals to quickly download and store large business documents from e- mail and also access corporate servers for up-to-date files and information. With the proposed solution, if a professional misplaces his or her smartphone they can pair a DAVE-enabled device to the new handset and get back into business almost immediately without the risk of losing sensitive and valuable information along with the original handset.

"The enterprise has undergone a metamorphosis as the number of mobile professionals continues to increase, and the resulting abundance of digital files and portable devices has led to greater obstacles and risk for the enterprise consumer," said Patrick King, senior vice president and general manager of Seagate's consumer electronics business unit. "Seagate's joint effort with Orange Business Services will enable mobile professionals to share, save and transport digital content in a completely new, more efficient fashion."

"Orange's research shows that the rapid adoption of smart handheld devices is being driven by a desire for efficiency, productivity and greater workplace flexibility," said Suzy Edward, Partner Director, Orange Business Services UK. "But with greater numbers of smart devices in circulation, more and more of our enterprise customers are experiencing the pain of losing valuable information. Our relationship with Seagate will enable us to offer businesses an effective solution for managing this mobile data."

The DAVE platform is designed with Bluetooth 2.0 EDN and WiFi 802.11b/g technology for access to smartphones within 9 meters (30 feet), allowing users to slip a DAVE-enabled device safely into a purse, briefcase or pocket while it is in use. The DAVE reference design, roughly the size of a centimeter- thick credit card and weighing only 70 grams, is built for convenience and portability.

In addition to their hundreds of work files, mobile professionals also desire access to their personal media content whenever and wherever they choose. The combination of Orange high-speed mobile and broadband networks with 10 to 20 Gigabytes of storage capacity from DAVE-enabled devices allows road warriors to quickly download content from Orange's network and store it alongside other music, photos and videos.
