Sapphire Lenses For Extreme Environments

Custom fabricated sapphire lenses for detectors, sensors, viewports, and military front-surface optics that are subjected to extreme environments are available from Meller Optics, Inc. of Providence, Rhode Island.

Meller Sapphire Lenses are manufactured to specification in plano-convex, plano-concave, meniscus, and dome configurations for extreme environmental applications requiring durability and critical focusing specifications. Featuring focal lengths from 3/4" to 1000 mm and greater, depending upon diameter, they can be produced in sizes from 3/8" to 4" dia. with varying thicknesses, precisely drilled holes, and special edge treatments.

Exhibiting Moh 9 hardness, which is second only to diamond, Meller Sapphire Lenses have diameter tolerances to ±0.001 and surface finishes from 60-40 to 40-20 scratch-dig, depending upon size and configuration. Available with A/R coatings, these rugged sapphire lenses exhibit spherical power and irregularity to 1/4 wave or better at HeNe.

Meller Sapphire Lenses are priced according to configuration, size, and quantity. Literature and price quotations are available upon request.
