Sapphire Laser Optics Fabricated to Precise Specifications
Custom fabricated sapphire optics for medical lasers, blood gas monitors, and other instruments requiring a lens, window, or probe that is rugged and inert are available from Meller Optics, Inc. of Providence, Rhode Island.
Meller Custom Medical Sapphire Optics are fabricated to specifications as balls from 0.005" to 0.5" dia., as plano-convex and -concave lenses, and windows from 0.5" to 6" dia., and as rectangles, squares, cones, and domes. Extremely durable, chemically inert, and capable of transmitting from the UV through 4.7 µm, they can be produced with wedges, precise mounting holes and steps, and can be brazed or sealed to stainless steel or Kovar®.
Featuring Moh 9 hardness, flatness to 1/10th wave, parallelism to 2 arc-sec., and surface finishes to <0.5nm, Meller Custom Medical Sapphire Optics transmit up to 85% uncoated and can be coated to enhance transmission to >99%, depending upon thickness. They are suitable for Holmium and ER:Yag lasers, blood gas monitors, centrifuges, ventilation- and oximeter systems, and related instruments.
