Saint-Gobain's CarboTherm(TM) Boron Nitride Fillers for Thermally Conductive, Dielectric Polymers on Display at Compounding World Forum 2013

Amherst, NY – Saint-Gobain Ceramic Materials, a pioneer in advanced material solutions, announced today that its range of CarboTherm™ boron nitride thermal management fillers will be on display at the upcoming Compounding World Forum 2013, December 10-11, Booth #2, Hilton City Avenue, Philadelphia.

CarboTherm Boron Nitride fillers enable manufacturing of thermally conductive, dielectric plastic compounds, allowing compounders to enter new markets for injection molded plastics beyond traditional applications. As sizes of electronic devices get smaller, every generation and energy densities higher, the traditional metal or ceramic heat removal components become complicated and costly to die-cast in small intricate shapes. Plastic's light weight, ease of processing, high strength-to-weight ratio and resistance to corrosion, now with a unique combination of thermal conductivity and electrical isolation offers novel solutions.

CarboTherm Boron Nitride fillers are low density, thermally conductive and electrically insulating. "Boron Nitride, unlike other ceramics, is soft and non-abrading, enabling longer life for injection-molding and extruding equipment," said Neelam Kumar, Product Manager for CarboTherm. "Additionally, CarboTherm offers two distinct advantages over carbon based fillers – it enhances plastic's inherent electrical isolation properties instead of altering it, and its white color makes it ideal where a combination of high thermal conductivity along with pleasant aesthetics or addition of colorants is required," adds Neelam.

Compatible with a variety of resin systems, CarboTherm gives plastic compounders ease and flexibility to leverage their existing resin expertise in growth markets such as LED lighting, electrical and electronics, medical devices, automotive and aerospace.
