Rocket Launch of Unmanned Mission Viewed with Pride by Rayotek Sight Windows
Rayotek Sight Windows was both excited and proud to view the test flight launch of Delta IV Orion EFT-1.
Key position employees from both Rayotek Scientific, Inc. and its sister company, Rayotek Sight Windows were excited to have attended the Delta IV launch of the Orion Exploration Flight Test 1 (EFT-1) Mission. The launch was in December 2014 at the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida. United Launch Alliance in partnership with Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company moved NASA's Orion spacecraft to the launch pad where it was mounted on top of the Delta IV rocket for the test flight.
Rayotek provided consulting, engineering, and manufacturing of the fused silica windows. In addition, Rayotek designed and built the laser defect scanning system and the proof pressure test systems, both essential for insuring window reliability and future crew safety.
Testing future human missions to deep space, the uncrewed spacecraft traveled 3,600 miles above Earth on a four-plus hour flight to test many of the critical systems. According to NASA, after two orbits and 60,000 miles, Orion re-entered Earth's atmosphere at almost 20,000 mph before its parachute systems deployed to slow the spacecraft for a splashdown in the Pacific Ocean near San Diego. The goal of future missions on the Orion spacecraft is to propel astronauts farther than ever before into the solar system.

Because of their success with the Orion Program, Rayotek was chosen to provide the windows for the newly awarded Boeing CCtCAP manned space capsule.
