Richardson RFPD Announces Availability of Featured IoT Products from Microchip

Product groups for IoT applications include LoRa® modules, Wi-Fi modules and 802.15.4 chips

March 30, 2020 – Geneva, Ill.: Richardson RFPD, Inc., an Arrow Electronics company, announced today the availability and full design support capabilities for wireless connectivity modules and devices from Microchip Technology Inc. These devices are part of Microchip’s broad portfolio of total system solutions, available from Richardson RFPD, for smart, connected and secure designs for IoT applications.

Microchip’s ATSAMR34 and ATSAMR35 are highly integrated LoRa® System-in-Package (SiP) devices available in a compact 6 mm x 6 mm BGA package. The SAM R34/R35 family includes an integrated ultra-low power 32-bit ARM Cortex M0+ along-side a UHF transceiver that supports LoRa and FSK modulation. There is 256 KB of Flash and 40 KB of RAM to support application code and stack. The SAM R34 includes a full-speed USB interface, making it suitable for USB dongle applications or for software updates via USB. The SAM R35 offers the same functions without the USB interface. The embedded LoRaWAN™ Class A and Class C protocol enables seamless connectivity to any LoRaWAN-compliant network infrastructure, whether public or privately deployed. The SAM R34/R35 family’s ultra-low-power performance combined with a rich set of radio and peripheral features makes it ideal for a variety of long-range applications where longevity of battery life is of paramount importance.

The ATWINC1500 and ATWINC1510 are low power-consumption 802.11 b/g/n IoT Wi-Fi modules. These single-band 2.4 GHz IoT network controller modules feature a fully integrated power amplifier, low noise amplifier, switch and power management. The ATWINC1500 has 4 MB of Flash memory, which is used for Firmware (FW) storage, including support for over the air (OTA) FW update. The ATWIN1510, with 8 MB of Flash, supports storing of additional software images (up to 512 KB) for the host MCU.

Additional key features of these devices include:

  • Output power: +18.5 dBm (802.11b 11 Mbps)
  • TX current consumption: 287 mA (802.11n MCS7)
  • RX current consumption: 83 mA (802.11n MCS7)
  • Small form factor: 21.7 mm x 14.7 mm, surface mount

Applications requiring both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth can use the ATWINC3400 802.11 b/g/n plus Bluetooth 5 Core Specification network controller module. This is an ideal add-on to existing microcontroller solutions, offering Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE) network capabilities through an SPI-to-Wi-Fi and BLE interface. The ATWIN3400-STK is a hardware platform that includes a host MCU and temperature sensor to evaluate the WINC3400-MR210CA module.

The ATSAMR21 and ATSAMR30 are 802.15.4-compliant single chips that combine an ARM® Cortex®-M0+ based 32-bit microcontroller and 2.4 GHz (ATSAMR21) or sub-GHz (ATSAMR30) RF transceivers. The ATSAMR21 offers excellent RF performance, with a link budget of 103 dBm, while consuming 50% less active current than existing offerings. The ATSAMR30 offers 256 KB of Flash and 40 KB of SRAM (8 KB battery-backed) in as small as a 5 mm QFN32 package. Advanced power management technologies, such as power domain gating, SleepWalkin, and ultra-low-power peripherals, allow for very low power performance and long battery life sensor applications.
