Quantum3D Receives Follow-On Orders from Cross Match Technologies for Additional Thermite Tactical Visual Computers for U.S. Navy Deployed Biometric System

Quantum3D Thermite Small Form-Factor, COTS Tactical Visual Computing Systems Used in Biometric System Deployed by U.S. Navy Expanded Maritime Interception Operations

SAN JOSE, CA-August 27, 2007-Quantum3D®, Inc., a leading provider of Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS), open-architecture, realtime visual computing solutions, today announced that the Company has received orders for and delivered over 100 additional Thermite® Tactical Visual Computers (TVCs) to Cross Match® Technologies for deployment with Cross Match's Man-Wearable Multi-Modal Jump Kits. Since its initial deployment in 2006, the Multi-Modal Jump Kits Biometrics System has been used by the U.S. Navy to help identify persons of interest aboard vessels boarded during specified interception operations.

Biometric data in the form of fingerprints is used to allow positive identification of an individual and prevent the use of false identity documents. U.S. Navy ships using the Cross Match Multi-Modal Jump Kits have the capability to collect and forward biometric data collected from persons of interest on boarded vessels. This data may be compared with fingerprint data of known criminals and terrorists in national and international police and national security databases. The operations, referred to as Expanded Maritime Interception Operations (EMIO), are performed by the Navy's Vessel Boarding Search and Seizure (VBSS) teams. Because of its use in all corners of the world, EMIO is destined to play a major role in the prevention of smuggling of contraband and the proliferation of illegal weapons, and also to aid in detaining and arresting known international terrorist suspects.

"The Cross Match Multi-Biometric system with the Thermite system brings the power of PC-based workstations to vessel boarding and seizure operations," said Commander John Funn, Assistant Program Manager for Expeditionary Systems, Anti-Terrorism Afloat (PMS 480). "This system allows the EMIO teams to collect and forward biometric data from potential terrorists, smugglers and other international criminals on intercepted ships."

About Thermite TVC-2.0 COTS, Mil-Spec Tactical Visual Computers (PCs) for Man-Wearable and Vehicle Based Applications

The small form-factor and weight (0.75 kg) of the Thermite TVC-2.0 Model 1000 and TL products, combined with their intrinsic PC compatibility, unique video-capture and display, graphics capabilities, extensive I/O options including GPS, and mil-spec ruggedization, make them ideal for man-wearable 2D/3D graphics and video-intensive deployed C4ISR, UAV/UGV control, mission-planning, biometric and computer-assisted maintenance applications. By combining state-of-the-art embedded computing and mobile graphics with video-capture and display options, extended-environment packaging with conduction-cooling technologies, and support for Linux and Windows operating systems, the Thermite TVC systems enable the rapid migration of desktop and notebook PC applications to deployed environments while setting the standard for mobility, long battery life, ruggedization and realtime visualization capabilities in a man-wearable computer. The Thermite TVC-2.0 Model TL is available with an optional Quantum3D Farsight 3700TL 3.7" Tactical Handheld Display and control device which uniquely incorporates low power consumption and a small footprint to satisfy a broad range of requirements for command-and-control interfaces and local visual-display capabilities.
