- Ekahau's Real-Time Location System (RFID-over-Wi-Fi™) improves caregiver communications and safety with wearable badges that enable location-based messaging and operate over the Cisco WLAN.
RESTON, Virginia – Today, Ekahau Inc., the high-performance leader in Wi-Fi-based Real-Time Location Systems, announced the implementation of its RTLS safety and messaging solution in National Psychiatric Clinic in Hall/Tyrol, Austria. The Hall Clinic is the third hospital in the TILAK (Tyrolean Provincial Hospitals) group to implement Ekahau's location-based staff safety alert solution, along with University Hospital of Innsbruck and Hochzirl State Hospital.
The Ekahau RTLS solution was implemented by ITH icoserve, a certified Ekahau partner. It is integrated with ITH's ProAct emergency call management system for intelligent alerts and process-oriented, complex notification cycles.
The integrated Ekahau/ProAct staff safety solution is used by the psychiatric forensics department, where patients suffering from mental illness are treated. While patients are free to move throughout the facility, unpredictable behaviors pose a safety risk for both hospital employees and other patients. Now, staff members wear Ekahau's B4 badges and if assistance is needed they simply pull down on their Ekahau badge so that nearby co-workers receive their help request, which is displayed on the badge LED as a text message. The solution greatly reduces the time it takes for the staff to react to the event by displaying the location of the caregiver requesting assistance and eliminating the need for map look-ups and manual dialing.
The Ekahau RTLS system operates seamlessly over the facility's existing Cisco Wireless LAN, without additional cabled infrastructure.
"In the last three years hundreds of employees in Innsbruck and Hochzirl have been using the Ekahau personal alarm system. Previous cooperation with Ekahau ran so smoothly that it was a logical step for us to go with Ekahau RTLS as the basis for our ProAct system - because it not only supports our original personal safety application, it also gives us the flexibility to add more applications that require real-time location tracking in the future," said Andreas Gereke, Head of Innovation and Research Solutions at ITH icoserve.
"This personal protection system with accurate location protects our employees from violent attacks and is greatly appreciated by our staff," said Romed Giner, DI (FH), Manager of IT-technics.
Ekahau, Inc. provides organizations with unprecedented visibility into the location, condition, and status of assets, people, and workflows to help ensure safety and operational efficiency through advanced RTLS technology solutions. Ekahau also provides state-of-the art Wi-Fi planning solutions to optimize Wi-Fi infrastructures of all sizes.
