Printronix Verifies FCC Certification on its RFID Printers and Applicators

IRVINE, Calif., May 1, 2006 - Printronix, Inc., (NASDAQ: PTNX), the leading integrated supply-chain printing solutions manufacturer, today comments on the statement issued last week by Applied Wireless Identifications (AWID) Interim Chairman and CEO Larry Kellam to the effect that some of its radio frequency identification (RFID) reader assembly products may not be in full compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) certification standards.

As a device manufacturer, Printronix independently seeks and obtains FCC certification as a standard business practice on all of its covered products, including those incorporating RFID devices procured from AWID. In October 2005, the FCC granted Printronix certification for its SL5000r MP2 and SLPA7000r MP2 RFID product lines, which are being shipped currently.

Although Printronix has obtained certification and sustains an ongoing audit program to ensure compliance on all its covered products, Printronix has chosen to take an additional proactive step and will revalidate the prior test results for its products that incorporate AWID reader assemblies. It is Printronix's intent to provide additional peace of mind to its customers by following this process.

Printronix does not anticipate any near-term impact on its RFID printer and applicator shipments due to this AWID situation.

"Printronix products remain best-in-class. We've consistently delivered proven, first-to-market UHF RFID printing solutions for supply-chain initiatives," said Andy Chapman, senior vice president, engineering and product marketing, and chief technology officer, Printronix.
