Pregis' achieves SFI Certification for Hexacomb, Falconboard Lines

Deerfield, Ill., October 7, 2009-Pregis Corp.'s Hexacomb® products have met the fiber-sourcing certification standards set by the independent Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI®). Pregis Hexacomb has exceeded the "two-thirds" fiber sourcing standard requirements by sourcing 95% of its paper from SFI companies that are certified under the organization's procurements standards. The other 5% are from non controversial sources.

"We are pleased to be able to provide our customers with products that exceed SFI's minimum standard for fiber procurement. This is just one more step in Pregis' ongoing commitment to producing environmentally-sound products," says Scott Daniel, vice president of operations, Pregis Hexacomb.

The entire Hexacomb line of kraft honeycomb cushioning products made in North America as well as the recently introduced Falconboard(TM) (a new environmentally-responsible graphic display board which provides users with a unique alternative to petroleum-based display options) are both approved for the SFI fiber sourcing label.

Hexacomb products are made from a combination of environmentally-friendly kraft paper and water-based adhesives. The resulting hexagonal "honeycomb" construction provides superior cushioning and protection. Falconboard is ideally suited for digital and screen printing applications such as signage, point-of-purchase and trade show displays.

With more than 160 million acres certified across North America, the non-profit SFI sustainable forest certification program is one of the largest in the world, with a standard based on principles and measures that promote responsible environmental behavior and sound forest management including measures to protect water quality, biodiversity, wildlife habitat, species at risk and forests of exceptional conservation value.

As part of its certification, Pregis Hexacomb will be required to undergo annual surveillance audits as well as full certification to the SFI standard every five years, conducted by an independent, accredited certification body.

"Achieving SFI certification also will enable us to better support our customers' environmental initiatives. It is just one more opportunity for Pregis to deliver on its environmental stewardship commitment," Daniel says.
