Pratt & Whitney Launches Geared Turbofan(TM) Engine MRO Network

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. -- FARNBOROUGH AIRSHOW - Pratt & Whitney, a United Technologies Corp. company (NYSE: UTX), launched its Geared Turbofan PW1000G engine maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) network at the Farnborough Airshow today, providing customer solutions that result in engines with longer time on-wing and lower fuel burn advantages.

"Pratt & Whitney has teamed with its OEM collaborators to provide Geared Turbofan engine customers with outstanding technical support from day one of entry into service," said Matthew Bromberg, president, Pratt & Whitney Aftermarket.

Pratt & Whitney will build on its existing comprehensive MRO network to locate facilities and customer service representatives around the world to provide rapid service for Geared Turbofan engine operators.  To date, five engine overhaul centers have been initially selected to maintain the PW1000G fleet, strategically located in Asia, Europe and North America.  All customer service representatives and facilities will be tooled, trained and ready to ensure fast, quality service.  Additional providers may be added over time as appropriate.

"The reason we formed a network is to bring as much value to customers as we can," Bromberg said.  "Our experienced, high volume shops will streamline operations, continuously improve customized work scopes, and incorporate best practices to offer the highest quality work at competitive costs."

Pratt & Whitney has an open, flexible approach to Geared Turbofan engine maintenance where operators are free to choose their service provider.  While there are many advantages to selecting Pratt & Whitney's partner network, operators may choose independent MRO providers as well.  "Our approach is not to be exclusive and inflexible.  We welcome competition and want our customers to have a choice in their important maintenance decision," Bromberg said.

The Geared Turbofan engine family has more than 5,500 orders and commitments, including options from more than 50 global customers.  More than 80 percent of Geared Turbofan engines sold will be serviced under an Engine Services fleet management agreement.
