Powerwave Expands Versaflex Family of Base Station Enclosures with the Introduction of a Seven-Bay Cabinet

Featuring a smaller footprint, the lighter weight VersaFlex 7.0 is designed for network deployments for lower capacity requirements

CTIA WIRELESS 2007, ORLANDO, Fla., Booth #2163, March 28, 2007 - Powerwave Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:PWAV), a global source for end-to-end wireless infrastructure solutions, today expanded its family of VersaFlex(TM) base station enclosures, with the addition of the VersaFlex 7.0.

Designed for smaller network deployments, VersaFlex 7.0 features seven bays and measures 10 feet x 7.6 feet x 8 feet, trimming nearly 4 feet off the width of the cabinet, when compared to VersaFlex 9.0, a nine-bay version measuring 13 feet x 7.6 feet x 8 feet. This can help to further lower a network operator's site rental costs due to a reduction in the amount of space consumed by the enclosure.

"The introduction of the VersaFlex 7.0 base station enclosure is part of our commitment to develop innovative wireless infrastructure solutions that meet the unique requirements of our customers," said Steven Damewood, Vice President, Coverage Systems Product Unit, Powerwave Technologies. "Wireless networks come in all shapes and sizes, and we believe that this smaller version of our base station enclosure will appeal to customers that have fewer capacity requirements, but still want to benefit from the ease-of-use, rugged equipment protection and cost-savings afforded by VersaFlex."

VersaFlex 7.0 features the same innovative modular design as Powerwave's nine-bay version, making it faster and easier to install than competitive solutions. A new, bi-fold door design offers full access to the smaller space housing the equipment, while protecting it from the elements.

Because they are built to accommodate small lease spaces, the VersaFlex family of base station enclosures can help wireless operators make the most from their existing real estate portfolios, by leveraging capital expenditures and freeing up space to provide potential new revenue streams.

VersaFlex 7.0 is designed to house all network operating equipment and cabling on sliding racks that are moved horizontally, providing ease of maintenance and flexibility to accommodate additional equipment and new technology as needed.

The enclosure's design features a sub-floor thermal management system (HVAC) which consists of heating, ventilation and air conditioning, along with a DC cooling mode and a unique anti-condensation feature that protects valuable base station (BTS) equipment. The sub-floor cooling virtually eliminates "hot spots" ensuring proper air flow among all equipment housed in the enclosure and significantly reduces meantime between equipment failures. Additionally, the rugged equipment protection provided by VersaFlex enables the use of indoor-rated equipment which can lower capital expenditures by as much as 15-20 percent.

VersaFlex 7.0 is quick and easy to deploy, and can be delivered pre-configured and pre-cabled, and dropped at any location fully populated. Due to the small footprint, all VersaFlex base station enclosures can be installed with a forklift, as opposed to a crane. And since they are lighter than traditional base station enclosures - 3,500 lbs for the "ultra-light" VersaFlex 7.0 and 4000 lbs. for VersaFlex 9.0 vs. the average 50,000 lbs. of a typical enclosure -- it costs less to ship and is ideal for rooftop deployments.
