Powermax® Systems Obtain WEEE and RoHS Compliancy

Hanover, NH, USA - Hypertherm announced today that all Powermax600, Powermax1000, Powermax1250, and Powermax1650 systems, manufactured after July 1, 2006 are in compliance with the RoHS Directive. The RoHS Directive seeks to reduce the use of certain hazardous substances in the manufacture of new electrical and electronic equipment, including hand-held plasma arc cutting systems.

To meet these European Directives, Hypertherm redesigned the market-leading Powermax plasma arc cutting product line. Now, the company's global customer-base will benefit from these environmentally conscience products. "Hypertherm is committed to regulatory compliance and protecting the environment, health, and safety of our Associates, customers and the global communities where our products are used," said Jean-Marc Derep, Hypertherm's European Service Manager. He added, "Hypertherm follows the interpretation of the RoHS directive as advised by Orgalime and the European Welding Association."

The RoHS Directive applies to the eight of the ten categories covered by the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive such as large household appliances, small household appliances, IT and telecommunications equipment, consumer equipment, lighting equipment, electrical and electronic tools, toys, leisure and sporting equipment, and automatic dispensers. Specifically, the RoHS Directive limits the use of lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) for these products.
