Portalify Announces First Instant Messaging Solution for Professional TETRA Users

TETRA IM(tm) Brings Power of Instant Messaging to Professional and Public Safety Users

Frankfurt, Germany (TETRA World Congress 2005) -- November 29, 2005 -- Portalify Ltd, a Finland-based software company focused on wireless data services for public safety users, today announced TETRA IM(tm), the first commercially available instant messaging (IM) solution for professional-grade communication networks.

Designed for police, fire services, and other public safety and rescue officials, TETRA IM expands the concept of talk groups into data messaging. The solution integrates TETRA users, vehicle PC users, GSM users and office PC users into a seamless communication network in which every member can receive and publish information that is relevant to their team.

Group messaging saves time and makes information instantly available to those who need it the most. TETRA IM improves the situation awareness of operations managers, allowing them to keep track of field units in fast-moving situations and to quickly receive and send critical information.

"Portalify's new TETRA IM solution brings the power of instant messaging to professional networks, allowing better field force communication, coordination and management. Efficient and versatile TETRA applications contribute directly to the service level of public safety organizations. Data services are the ideal extension to secure voice communications, increasing the return on investment for organizations using TETRA networks," said Hannu Aronsson, Chief Technology Officer, Portalify.

Portalify's TETRA IM supports TETRA, GSM/GPRS, 3G and fixed networks. Multi-channel technology complements TETRA communications with other mobile networks where necessary, thus ensuring that the information is always delivered. TETRA IM can be used with all terminal device types.

TETRA IM was successfully field-proven in extensive use at the IAAF 2005 Athletics World Championships, held in August 2005 in Helsinki, Finland. The solution is now available worldwide through Portalify and their partner network.

Portalify solutions enable TETRA terminals to access a wide range of data services securely and reliably. In Finland, Portalify software powers numerous key applications used daily by Finnish police officers, facilitating routine tasks and supporting efficient reporting. Other Portalify customers include public sector organizations such as safety, fire and rescue services, as well as major telecom operators and content providers.

Note to editors: Portalify is an exhibitor at TETRA World Congress, Forum Messe Frankfurt, Germany, from November 29th to December 1st, 2005 (Pod # P4 at the Application Village). Company executives are available for interview.

About TETRA

TErrestrial Trunked RAdio (TETRA) is a digital trunked radio standard developed by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) for highly demanding professional mobile radio applications. TETRA networks, used in over 70 countries, are built to replace a range of obsolete and insecure radio communications systems previously used by public safety and government organizations. With its unique combination of mobile phone and radio handset technology, combined with wireless data services, TETRA safeguards reliable voice and data communications for public safety officials in all situations. Versatile, instant voice and data communication to groups, as well as the prioritization of communications, are essential to field personnel and operations management in fast-moving situations. Direct handset-to-handset radio connections enable communication even without a base station network, while data services provide users with quick and direct access to key databases from their terminals.
