Research Director for China's SINOPEC will Detail Polymer Advances in Plenary Address at SPE Polyolefins Conference

NEWTOWN, CT, U.S.A.: Dr. Jinliang Qiao of China's SINOPEC, a leading producer of polyolefins, will deliver a plenary address at the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) 23rd International Polyolefins Conference®, SPE announced today.

The Conference will take place in Houston, Texas on February 27- March 2, 2011. Dr. Qiao will make his presentation, "Aspects of the Polyolefin Industry in China," on Monday, Feb. 28. He was originally scheduled to be a plenary speaker at the 2010 Polyolefins Conference but was unable to attend.

Dr. Qiao will focus on recent results of polymer physics research at SINOPEC, including these innovations:

  • New polyolefin resins, among them high-performance polypropylene (PP) for biaxial orientation; low-cost, high-crystallinity PP; and high-performance polyethylene (PE) for pipe.

  • Advances in polymerization processes and catalysts for polyolefins.

  • Development of high-efficiency nucleating agents for PP and linear low-density PE (LLDPE).

Dr. Jinliang Qiao was born in Beijing in 1959. He has worked at the SINOPEC Beijing Research Institute of the Chemical Industry since 1985 and is now vice president of the Institute and director of the Polyolefin National Engineering Research Center. He holds a bachelors degree from the University of Science and Technology of China, a master's degree from the Beijing Research Institute ofhe Chemical Industry, and a PhD from Beijing University. Dr Qiao has published more than 70 papers and holds over 60 patents. He has been honored with multiple awards from the Chinese government and SINOPEC.

Produced by the South Texas Section of SPE, the 2011 International Polyolefins Conference will be co-sponsored by SPE's Flexible Packaging, Polymer Modifiers and Additives, and Thermoplastic Materials and Foams Divisions.
