Polish Buses Offer On-Board Self-Ticketing with Verifone NFC Payment Devices
Mera Systemy teams with Wincor Nixdorf and Verifone to provide convenient, unattended self-service on the go
Las Vegas (Money 20/20 Booth #717) and Paris (CARTES Stand 4 L 004) — Verifone (NYSE: PAY), announced today that several hundred buses in Poland's major cities are now providing passengers self-service ticketing using Verifone's UX Series of unattended contactless payment devices that can display payment amounts and targeted messaging to consumers.
"Cashless ticket vending machines are useful and modern tools dedicated to purchasing tickets, recharging urban cards and cell phones in public transportation, and are gaining more and more popularity among passengers. 24-hour access to devices, secured payment processing and time savings are the main advantages of buying tickets using mobile vending machines," said Grzegorz Lange, CEO for Mera Systemy.
Passengers on public transportation in major cities including Krakow and Lodz can pay for public transportation tickets in transit using contactless cards, NFC-equipped devices and mobile wallets. Mera Systemy, a specialist in the design and manufacture of automatic toll collection systems, developed the system utilizing Verifone devices, as well as software from Wincor Nixdorf, to allow transactions to be processed quickly and efficiently, so buying a ticket only takes a few seconds.

UX Solutions from Verifone comprises a series of versatile unattended payment devices for vending machines and other self-service environments, including parking meters, petroleum pumps and ticketing machines. Devices within the UX series feature LCD screens for customer engagement and can work together or separately, enabling customization of secure unattended payment solutions to meet self-service demands, indoors and out.
