PMI and Marcegaglia Asia Sign Exclusive Sales Agreement for North American Market

Marcegaglia China and Phillips Metals Inc. (PMI) have signed an agreement to provide sales of DOM products into the North American market. The agreement provides for exclusive sales representation to PMI and will target a variety of tubular markets including hydraulic cylinders, automotive, industrial, and distribution.

Marcegaglia is an Italian based steel manufacturer and one of the largest tubular products companies in the world. The plant in China was completed in 2010 at a cost of approximately $150 million. Since opening the facility has experienced rapid growth in the Asian marketplace and they are well positioned to ship to a global customer base. The plant manufacturers electric resistance welded (ERW) and drawn over mandrel (DOM) tubes for a wide range of applications and industries. Marcegaglia has a long history of high quality products and serves a global customer base for the most severe and technical product demands. Marcegaglia's China operation produces tube sizes up to 9" OD and 0.75” wall and can supply shapes including rounds, squares, rectangles, ovals, and other customer specific requirements. The plant will use European technology to make 200,000 tons of welded carbon steel tubes, 100,000 ton of cold drawn (DOM) tubes, 70,000 tons of stainless steel tubes and 30,000 tons of refrigeration tubes per year for automotive, energy, precision engineering and hydraulics industries.
