Picarro Offers "Ride-Alongs" In Natural Gas Leak Detection Vehicle to Regulatory Utility Commissioners in Denver

Picarro Surveyor™ for Natural Gas Leaks Test Rides at National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) Summer Committee Meeting

DENVER – Picarro Inc., the world's leading producer of gas measurement systems for science and industry, and a major sponsor of NARUC Summer Committee Meetings, will be offering test rides of their mobile emissions detection technology during the meetings in Denver from July 21 through 23. This is a unique opportunity for utility commissioners and executives throughout the country to experience the speed, accuracy and simplicity of Picarro Surveyor first-hand, in real-time.

The Denver summer committee meeting will explore a range of issues relevant to utility commissioners, including several panel discussions about pipeline safety. This meeting attracts over 800 attendees, including utility commissioners, executives and regulatory agency representatives nationwide.

"Safety is the stated priority of virtually every natural gas utility," said Michael Woelk, Picarro CEO. "We can help utilities and regulators realize their safety goals by using our highly sensitive and easy to use leak detection technology. Seeing is believing, and we are excited to show utility commissioners and executives first-hand in a 'ride-along'. It will surely be an eye-opening experience."

In October 2012, Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) announced that it would deploy Picarro Surveyor devices for vehicle-mounted, super-sensitive gas leak detection throughout its Northern and Central California service area over the next three years. PG&E initially ordered two devices in early 2012 and studied their capabilities by mounting them on electric vehicles. Picarro and PG&E have now signed a three-year managed services contract for six units.

Uniquely mobile, Picarro Surveyor for Natural Gas Leaks mounts CRDS instruments, which are 1000 times more sensitive than standard leak detection equipment, in the trunk of a vehicle. It radically simplifies leak detection by integrating wind transport physics into its leak detection analytics to instantly identify leak locations. P-Cubed® geo-informatics, which powers its data analysis, mapping, archive and reporting features, provides graphical visualizations of the surveyed area for simultaneous viewing by numerous users on an iPad or other web-enabled devices. All combined, these capabilities enable operators to conduct leak surveys while driving at normal traffic speeds, find previously undetectable leaks, and dramatically improve leak survey productivity and regulatory compliance.

Picarro recently was recognized by CNBC as a top five energy industry disruptor, named a 2013 Gartner Cool Vendor for Energy and Utilities, and featured in a PricewaterhouseCoopers white paper about next-generation leak detection technology. Picarro has also been recognized as a Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum and as an Energy Innovation Pioneer by IHS CERA.
