Photonic Products Showcases Tiny Laser Diode Collimators

Hatfield Broad Oak, UK, Tuesday, June 9, 2008

Photonic Products is showcasing its exciting new range of tiny laser diode collimators at LASER World of Photonics 2009 in Munich, on their booth B1 / 669+671.

The new range of laser diode collimators achieves the technically difficult feat of combining high alignment accuracy with a tiny package and comprises a micro laser diode collimator which measures just 4.5mm in diameter and two miniature laser diode collimators which measure just 6mm in diameter.

"The accuracy of these laser diode collimators is astonishing and we are proud to have achieved such high precision in such a tiny package whilst being able to keep pricing competitive", stated David McGuinness, Director of Sales for Photonic Products.

The 300-0444-00 micro laser diode collimator offers high bore sighting accuracy of <0.2º and the two miniature laser diode collimators offer boresight error of 0.4º in the standard version or an astonishing 0.05º boresight accuracy in the high precision version.

The 300-0444-00 micro laser diode collimator, diameter 4.5mm and length of only 8mm, has been designed specifically for use in applications requiring high beam alignment accuracy where size is a critical factor. It also has a high quality glass lens which offers improved optical performance over the operating temperature range.

It has a lasing wavelength of 650nm, elliptical output beam of 8.0 x 6.5mm at 5 metres, high bore sighting accuracy of <0.2º, beam divergence of 0.5mrad max, collimated output power of 3mW, and pointing stability of <0.2mrad/ºC. Operating current is 25mA and operating temperature range is from -10ºC to +70ºC. It consists of a brass housing, 3.3mm diameter laser diode and glass collimating lens in a lightweight 4.5mm cylindrical package.

The two miniature laser diode collimators in the range are specifically intended for use in applications requiring very high beam alignment accuracy. With the standard version giving a boresight error of 0.4º and the ultrahigh-precision version giving 0.05º, they are eminently suitable for even the most demanding of applications. They measure just 9.1mm in length and tiny 6mm in diameter.

They have a lasing wavelength of 650nm, elliptical output beam of 2.7 x 6mm at 5 metres, beam divergence of 0.5mrad max, collimated output power of 5mW max, pointing stability of <0.2mrad/ºC and high bore sighting accuracy. Operating current is 30mA, threshold current is 20mA and operating temperature range is from -10ºC to +70ºC. They consist of a brass housing, 5.6mm diameter laser diode and collimating lens in a lightweight 6mm cylindrical package.

These tiny laser diode collimators have been designed as complete low cost, high volume systems for OEM use.

David McGuinness, Director of Sales for Photonic Products, said "The accuracy of these laser diode collimators is astonishing and we are proud to have achieved such high precision in such a tiny package whilst being able to keep pricing competitive".
