Phoenix Contact Supports Mechatrolink Standard

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. -- In April 2006, Phoenix Contact joined the Mechatrolink Members Association (MMA), the Japan-based user organization dedicated to the development and promotion of the Mechatrolink motion network. The Mechatrolink motion network is an easy and cost-effective communication solution that covers the requirements of high-performance multi-axis servo systems.

One-hundred forty industrial companies belong to MMA, which was founded by Yaskawa Electric, the world's largest manufacturer of regulating drives, servo control systems and robotics.

Phoenix Contact is working with Yaskawa to develop a modular I/O bus coupler with the Mechatrolink interface based on the Inline system. When used in combination with Yaskawa drives and controls, the system engineer now is able to integrate the motion and machine control via a single network, which connects drives, I/O and controllers into an overall solution. Besides providing a high-performance and cost-effective machine control solution, the use of the Mechatrolink network can also shorten development, installation and start-up times.

Phoenix Contact, with U.S. headquarters in Middletown, Pa., is an independent subsidiary of Phoenix Contact GmbH & Co. KG of Blomberg, Germany, which operates 40 subsidiaries around the globe and employs more than 7,500 people. Phoenix Contact has implemented and maintains a Quality, Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety Management System that is registered to: ISO - 9001:2000 (Quality Management System), ISO - 14001:2004 (Environmental Management System) and OHSAS - 18001:1999 (Occupational Health & Safety System).
