Private Fleet Amount to Nearly 100 Over The Past 12 Months
April 30, 2007- PeopleNet, the industry-leading provider of profit-driving mobile communications and onboard computing to the private fleet industry, today reported that it signed 96 new fleets since the beginning of 2006.
The 96 private fleets are a substantial portion of the nearly 200 total fleets that signed with PeopleNet during 2006- a record number for the company.
"As the leader in convergence technology; bringing together the Onboard Computer with Mobile Communications; we have always offered real value to private fleets. We're pleased to see so many in the private fleet sector recognize that and adopt PeopleNet," said Ron Konezny, Chief Operating Officer.
According to Konezny, PeopleNet is particularly suited for private fleet operations because of its deep onboard computing functionality, world class communications offering, versatility, ease of use and competitive operating cost.
PeopleNet's new private fleet customers include a wide range of businesses and vehicles from nationwide tractor-trailer dry-van fleets like that of laminate maker Wilsonart, to specialized operations like Terra Renewal Services, which provides removal of waste-water and other services subject to EPA and DOT rules. Other companies that selected PeopleNet since the start of 2006 include JELD WEN Windows and Doors, Smart and Final Stores, Shell Lubricants and Holiday Companies just to name a few. These 96 new fleets operate tankers, flatbeds, reefers, beverage trucks and a host of specialized vehicles.
"Private fleets tend to be more diverse than commercial fleets, and those that adopted PeopleNet last year bear that out," Konezny said.
Some fleets are all heavy trucks while others, like that of Border States Electric, a 20-state distributor of electrical supplies, include everything from big trucks to vans, pick ups and cars.
PeopleNet, based in suburban Minneapolis, is North America's leading provider of Internet-based and integrated onboard computing and mobile communications systems. Its transportation products are used by top truckload, LTL, private, and service fleets in the U.S. and Canada. PeopleNet was the first major technology provider to offer Internet-based communications to the transportation industry 13 years ago and now serves more than 1,000 customers, including several Fortune 500 companies.
