People on the Move

People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards and conformance community.

The Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA), a member of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has named Stephanie Sears its new executive director. In this role, Ms. Sears will be the main liaison to the association’s Board of Directors, coordinating projects with IAQA volunteers and staff.

Prior to joining IAQA, Ms. Sears was the director of global operations business and planning analysis for Equifax. She spent ten years with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), where she coordinated technical papers, managed tradeshows and conferences, and supported international business development. While at ASME, Ms. Sears worked closely with the society’s International Gas Turbine Institute to expand the visibility and reach of the organization in international markets and new technical areas.

“IAQA is excited to introduce Stephanie Sears as our executive director,” Kent Rawhouser, IAQA president, said. “Stephanie brings both association and business experience to the position and, more importantly, she brings a passion to grow IAQA.”

The Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), an ANSI member, has announced that Matthew E. Wetzel is its new vice president and assistant general counsel.

Mr. Wetzel comes to AdvaMed from Boston Scientific, where he served as senior counsel, global compliance and ethics. In this role, he oversaw crucial parts of the company’s global compliance program, advising on legal issues related to U.S. health care fraud and abuse concerns, anti-bribery/anti-corruption issues, and physician-industry transparency initiatives. Mr. Wetzel has also been an associate at Washington, DC firms Reed Smith LLP and Latham & Watkins LLP.

“We’re delighted to welcome Matt to AdvaMed,” said Chris White, AdvaMed senior executive vice president and general counsel. “AdvaMed’s legal department works to ensure a predictable legal environment that values innovative health care solutions and ensures patient access to the latest advancements in medical technology. Matt’s deep medtech industry, legal, and health care experience will help the association continue to advance its advocacy goals and further AdvaMed’s compliance leadership.”
