People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), an organizational member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has announced that Peter A. Pagano will be joining the organization's policy team on September 13 as vice president, environment.

Mr. Pagano has extensive high-level experience in science, government, and environmental policy. Most recently, he served as an advisor to the natural science research units of the Smithsonian Institution. Prior to that he spent fifteen years at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), where he advised senior EPA management on national program areas and oversaw wide-ranging work on multi-pollutant air, energy, and transportation legislation.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Pagano served as a principal policy advisor to Senator Robert Torricelli (D-NJ), advising the Senator on a wide range of energy and environmental issues as well as drafting legislation, writing speeches, and coordinating hearings on his behalf. And he worked as an investigator and a project analyst in the State of Maine's Department of Environmental Protection. He has a master's degree in public policy and management from the University of Southern Maine and a bachelor's degree in environmental science from Colby College.
