People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.
The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI), a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has promoted Stephen R. Yurek to the position of Chief Executive Officer. Formerly the AHRI president, his new title is president and CEO.
Mr. Yurek joined AHRI in 2002 as vice president of policy and public affairs and general counsel. He assumed the newly created position of Chief Operating Officer two years later, and was promoted to President in 2007.
"We are pleased to promote Steve to CEO," said Ray Hoglund, AHRI Chairman. "His leadership skills, his knowledge of the industry, and his forward-thinking approach to AHRI as a global association have inspired confidence in the membership and make his ascension to CEO a natural progression."
Mr. Yurek also serves on the ANSI Board of Directors. Prior to his work at AHRI, he was vice president of business development for CompassLearning, Inc., and general counsel and chief operating officer at the National Association of Secondary School Principals. He holds a bachelor of science degree in chemistry and a Juris Doctor.
AHRI has also announced the promotion of David B. Calabrese to senior vice president of policy. He was previously the vice president of public policy. He will continue to oversee AHRI's government relations, regulatory, research, and international affairs activities.
Mr. Calabrese came to AHRI in 2008 from the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), where he served as vice president of government relations since 2003. He brings over 17 years of government relations experience to the position, and served as director of government relations for the Electronic Industries Alliance for ten years.
Mr. Calabrese holds a masters degree in international relations from The George Washington University and a law degree from The George Washington University School of Law.
