People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

ANSI member and accredited standards developer the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has named Roger Platt to the newly created position of senior vice president of global policy and law. Mr. Platt moves to USGBC from a long-time position as senior vice president and counsel at Real Estate Roundtable (formerly National Realty Committee).

At Real Estate Roundtable, a lobbying group representing commercial real estate holders, Platt handled government outreach and built a long record of advancing energy, sustainability, and climate change policy issues. He pioneered collaborations with the Clinton Climate Initiative, the National Resources Defense Council, the Environmental Defense Fund, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

His role at USGBC will include global outreach and policy and legal work, areas that are evolving rapidly as green building becomes more mainstream. "USGBC is clearly setting the agenda for how the wholesale shift to greener, more efficient buildings and communities will happen," said Mr. Platt. "To be able to contribute more directly to that success in this new role is very exciting."

Mr. Platt also previously served as a consultant to former President Clinton's Corporation for National and Community Service and as an associate at the San Francisco law firm Coblentz, Cahen, McCabe & Breyer. He has a bachelor's from Harvard University and a law degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law.
