People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has recently named Kevin M. Dempsey senior vice president for public policy and general counsel, effective July 1, 2009.
In this role, Mr. Dempsey will work to promote public policies that will help the North American steel industry compete in the global economy.

Formerly a partner in the Washington, DC office of Dewey & LeBoeuf, a global law firm, Mr. Dempsey brings extensive legislative, public policy and international trade law experience to AISI.

Prior to joining Dewey & LeBoeuf in 1995, he served as counsel to Senator John C. Danforth (R-MO) and the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation. During his years on Capitol Hill and in the private sector, Mr. Dempsey has worked extensively on international trade negotiations, including the Doha Development Agenda.

A member of the District of Columbia bar, Mr. Dempsey received a juris doctorate from Harvard Law School and a BA in history from Washington University.
