The United States Pharmacopeial Convention (USP), an ANSI member, has announced that Roger Williams, M.D., its longtime chief executive officer (CEO), will step down from his position on June 30, 2014, in keeping with previous contractual agreements. The Executive Committee of USP’s Board of Trustees expects to announce the initiation of a search committee and the selection of an associated executive search firm in connection with the CEO position during the first quarter of 2013.

As part of his duties at USP, Dr. Williams – the convention’s fourth CEO – also serves as the 15th chair of its Council of Experts, the scientific standards-setting body that oversees revision of USP’s standards compendia, including the United States Pharmacopeia. Prior to joining USP in 2000, Dr. Williams, a clinical pharmacologist and board-certified internist, worked in academia and at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). He received his undergraduate degree from Ohio’s Oberlin University and his medical degree from Illinois’s University of Chicago School of Medicine.
