People on the Move spotlights trailblazers in standardization, highlighting their latest achievements, advancements, and contributions to the standards community.



The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has announced that Elise Owen will step down from her position as the Institute’s director of international policy and representative for China affairs on February 22, 2013. Following her departure from ANSI, Ms. Owen will begin work as the associate vice president for global strategy and analysis for ANSI member the Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed), where she will focus on China and related issues.



Prior to joining ANSI in 2006, Ms. Owen was employed as an international trade specialist with the U.S. Department of Commerce (DoC)’s International Trade Administration (ITA), where she worked to bolster U.S.-China trade and address bilateral concerns connected with standards and related subjects areas.



Ms. Owen received her undergraduate degree from New York’s Regent’s College, now known as Excelsior College, and her MBA from the University of Hawaii’s College of Business Administration. She is proficient in both Mandarin Chinese and Japanese, and is certified by the Defense Language Institute and Foreign Language Center, where she served while enlisted in the U.S. Army.
