Optical Entertainment Network (OEN) Selects Alloptic for the Largest North America IP Video Deployment

LAS VEGAS, Oct. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Alloptic, Inc., a pioneer in the development and deployment of Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (GEPONs), the ultimate communications network for today and tomorrow, announced that OEN has selected Alloptic's Network Access solution for North America's largest IP video roll-out. OEN is the first company to acquire complete IP video programming rights in the United States.

"We selected Alloptic for their superior gigabit PON technology and industry-leading experience in providing IP video services around the world," said Allen Easty, Chief Technical Officer, Optical Entertainment Network, the parent company of the FISION(TM) service. "Alloptic is the first PON vendor that we found that has the ability stand up to the rigorous demands of IP video and IP HDTV, in particular. We needed a reliable partner with proven technology, for OEN, Alloptic is the logical choice. Working together, we will deliver state-of-the-art IP services to the 1 million residents of Houston, the nation's 10th largest television market."

Alloptic is an industry leader in the development and deployment of IEEE Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (GEPON) technology. Alloptic's access network solution has been deployed around the world and offers the only GEPON solution with four years of field hardened, operational history. The Alloptic solution leverages a standard ITU PON architecture, while delivering a gigabit of bandwidth. With a native ability to support traditional TDM voice over an Ethernet-based platform, Alloptic is able to provide today's worry free telephone services while seamlessly supporting next generation services like IP HDTV.

"OEN, like other IP video service providers around the world, understands that an Ethernet based access network is the best solution for providing IP services whether it's internet access or IP HDTV. Ethernet is the transport protocol of IP, additional protocol conversion or encapsulation is unnecessary, expensive, and adds unneeded complexity to a network," said Mike Serrano, Director of Marketing for Alloptic. "Going forward, we are very excited about our opportunity to work with OEN as we expand IP video services throughout North America."
