Online Retailer Completes Distribution Center Upgrades CafePress.com Louisville, KY
March 10, 2009 -- GRAND RAPIDS, MI---viastore systems, Inc. has completed a two phase project with CafePress.com. For the first phase of the project, viastore systems worked with CafePress.com to create a system that would address product flow paths and underutilized space in the facility. During the second phase of the project, viastore systems and CafePress.com worked together to increase capacity by using the facility's
vertical space more effectively.
System Solution
Phase 1:
During Phase 1 of the project, viastore systems installed two sortation systems and a direct
line from packing and quality check to the shipping area. The first sortation system was located in the order consolidation area. Totes being conveyed into the consolidation area are scanned with an overhead omni directional scanner, and then diverted for merging. The second sortation system was installed in the shipping area to sort cartons and poly bags
by "ship via". Cartons and polybags are conveyed into the shipping area, scanned by an overhead omni directional scanner. They are then sorted by their "ship via" value using a patent-pending air assisted angled roller belt sorter. A direct line from the packing and quality check area to the shipping area was also installed. Completed orders in cartons and poly bags are placed on a takeaway belt conveyor system. The takeaway belt conveyor then elevates the cartons and ploy bags overhead, and delivers them to the shipping area.
Phase 2:
viastore constructed a large mezzanine to increase production space and storage capacity. The new mezzanine was also able to house additional conveyor to transport product to storage areas.
The Result
The system improved product/production flow paths and increased the utilization of the product
floor. The added storage and production capacity optimized the facility's efficiency.
Scope of Supply:
Phase 1:
Transportation, accumulation and sortation conveyor. Software to interface with Cafepress.com
host software.
Phase 2:
Additional conveyor to increase capacity. Mezzanine with ventilation system, sprinklers,
lights along with power and data outlets.
