Nylon Compounds with Recycled Content Enable Processors to Save on Costs and Meet 'Green' Requirements

Teknor Apex Custom-Formulates Recyclon® Nylon with a Wide Range of Recycled Content

PAWTUCKET, RI - Plastics processors now have access to recycled nylon that comes with the quality assurance of Teknor Apex Company, one of the world's leading custom compounders and a specialist in nylon formulations, the company announced today.

Teknor Apex can vary the percentage loadings of recycled polymer in its Recyclon® family of nylon compounds to meet customer requirements. Potential applications range from automotive components that satisfy mandates for use of recycled material to consumer and industrial items where cost reduction is a key consideration. One recent application for a Recyclon compound is components for lawn furniture.

The Recyclon family complements Teknor Apex's well-known Chemlon® nylon product range, which includes compounds that are widely specified in the automotive industry, noted Scott E. Fleming, vice president in charge of the Nylon Division.

"Not every nylon application calls for the full portfolio of elevated properties provided by standard compounds," noted Mr. Fleming. "The Recyclon product range provides a new option for balancing cost and value, and as a custom compounder Teknor Apex is well positioned to help each customer strike the balance that precisely meets their needs."

One of the main sources of raw material for producing Recyclon compounds is post-consumer carpet based on nylon 6 or 6/6 polymers. "Teknor Apex has agreements with carpet reclaim companies that ensure a stable supply of raw material in fiber form," said Mr. Fleming. "Prior to compounding, we clean and condition this feedstock to ensure the highest practical level of quality and consistency."

The Nylon Division of Teknor Apex Company is an international supplier of engineering thermoplastics for the transportation, consumer products, and industrial markets. It produces reinforced and specially modified compounds of polyamide 6, 6/6, 6/10, and 6/12 under the Chemlon® and Beetle® brands.  A privately held firm, Teknor Apex is one of the world's leading custom compounders of plastics. Headquartered in Pawtucket, RI, U.S.A., Teknor Apex operates twelve compounding facilities in the U.S., Europe, Singapore, and China and sells in 90 countries. Visit
