NXP Software Appoints Sirit as First Global Reseller and Integration Partner for Java-Based NFC Middleware for Mobile Phones

Sirit Mobile NFC Platform software solution and engineering services now available to global mobile handset manufacturers
TORONTO, Jan. 30 - Sirit Inc. ("Sirit") (TSX: SI), a leading provider of Near Field Communication ("NFC") and radio frequency identification ("RFID") solutions, announced today that NXP Software has appointed Sirit as NXP Software's first global reseller and integration partner for Java-based NFC middleware. In connection with this appointment, Sirit has announced the immediate availability of the Sirit Mobile NFC Platform ("Sirit MNP") middleware solution for mobile phone original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
NFC technology is a short range wireless connectivity method, co-invented by NXP Semiconductors, that is poised to become a standard feature on mobile phones. NFC-enabled mobile phones are expected to drive revolutionary applications (e.g. secure mobile payments, ticketing, etc.), create new revenue streams, and provide differentiation for mobile handsets.
This deal is significant because many OEMs are seeking to develop NFC-enabled mobile phones, but are faced with expensive and time-consuming design hurdles including middleware development, hardware engineering, and software integration. To address these design hurdles, NXP Software has developed J-Ware NFC - a Java-based embedded stack that provide mobile phones with a rich set of NFC functionality for JME application environments. J-Ware NFC is quickly becoming the leading embedded Java Micro Edition (JME) extension for NFC technology, enabling several high-profile deployments, to date.
The Sirit MNP is a package of Java-based embedded software stacks and specifications (JSRs) (powered by NXP Software's J-Ware NFC) and integration layers. With the launch of Sirit MNP, Sirit will serve as a complete 'one stop shop' for mobile phone OEMs, offering market-leading embedded NFC software licenses, technology services and support across multiple mobile phone platforms. These technology services include Java Virtual Machine (JVM) integration, Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) engineering, and custom application development. Combined with Sirit's expertise in NFC hardware design, Sirit is well positioned to help OEMs accelerate time to market and reduce costs in their development of NFC-enabled mobile phones. Sirit's services are available to OEMs as nonrecurring engineering (NRE), consulting, ODM/OEM, or licensed offerings.
