Awards Banquet Honors Industry Safety Achievements

The Woodlands, TX, May 3, 2007 - NPRA, the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association, today recognized facilities in the petroleum refining and petrochemical manufacturing industries, and contractors supporting the industries, for outstanding achievements in safe operations for the calendar year 2006. James Mahoney, NPRA Chairman of the Board and Vice President, Operations, Koch Industries, presented the awards to the facilities' representatives during the annual Safety Awards Banquet in conjunction with NPRA's National Safety Conference (NSC).

NPRA Executive Vice President Charles T. Drevna said, "The health and safety of employees, contractors, and the communities in which refiners and petrochemical manufacturers operate are, and have always been, the highest priority for NPRA members. The National Safety Conference is the preeminent forum for industry representatives to exchange and develop ideas, and to learn new and innovative methods for continuing our industry's strong tradition of achievement in process safety. The Distinguished Safety Award is the highlight of this commitment to the health and safety of employees and the public. NPRA is proud to honor our members' hard work and dedication to safe, secure operations."

The Distinguished Safety Award (DSA), the association's most prestigious award, was presented to ExxonMobil Chemical Company's Baton Rouge, LA, Polyolefins Plant, for an unprecedented fifth consecutive year. Since the NPRA safety awards program began in 1982, no other company has earned the association's coveted DSA for five consecutive years.

The Association honored the ExxonMobil Baton Rouge Refinery and Citgo's Corpus Refinery with the Distinguished Safety Award Honorable Mention for 2006. The Honorable Mention award is presented to a facility that has passed the initial screening criteria of the DSA application, exhibited excellent safety performance and program innovation, and showed promise of achieving DSA status in the future.

The presentation of the NPRA Safety Award is part of a comprehensive safety awards program developed by the association's Safety & Health Committee to promote accident prevention in the petroleum refining and petrochemical manufacturing industries, and to publicly recognize the excellent record of safety in operation that the industry has achieved.
