NORD Gear Tapped to Develop and Deliver Training for GEAPS

An online course offered this fall by the Grain Elevator and Processing Society (GEAPS) will feature content developed and delivered by NORD Gear Corporation, a world leader in drive technology solutions.

GEAPS 554: Grain Elevator Equipment Maintenance: An Inside Look at Key Components is part of a joint distance learning initiative by GEAPS and Kansas State University to offer trainings for people working in grain handling equipment management. GEAPS tapped NORD to develop content for the course due to the company’s deep expertise manufacturing motors, gear reducers, and drive components for the grain industry as well as other key markets, including food and beverage, intralogistics, transportation, and heavy industry.

NORD’s product training specialist, Tony Bitner, will lead the module titled Power Transmissions: Design, Maintenance & Troubleshooting, delivered during the first week of the five-week course. The module will train participants on: identifying key safety considerations related to power transmissions, understanding the importance of defined inspection and maintenance schedules, troubleshooting drive system issues, and establishing preventive maintenance protocols.

“During harvest season, grain facilities often run 24 hours a day and a preventive maintenance program is critical to preventing costly downtime,” said Bitner. “In addition to providing clean, safe, and reliable drive solutions, NORD helps those managing these facilities understand how the mechanical components work and should be maintained to ensure peace of mind when it matters most.”

Chris Blair, regional manager at NEW Cooperative, chairs GEAPS‘ education committee. His committee is always looking for industry leaders to present on new technology and best practices.

”Tony is a perfect example of what makes the distance education program so special,“ Blair said. ”We leverage the tremendous amount of knowledge in the grain handling industry, both from GEAPS members and non-members, and gather it in one place to help train the next generation of operations professionals.“

NORD drive solutions can be found in agriculture applications throughout the world, including grain processing, storage, and shipping facilities; drag, belt, and screw conveyors; and bin sweeps, slide gates, bucket elevators, and rail and barge winches.
