NIST and FCC to Hold Workshop on MRAs ......
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) are co-hosting the Second International Workshop on Mutual Recognition Agreements for Conformity Assessment of EMC and Telecommunications Regulations. The workshop will take place May 5-7, 2009, at the NIST headquarters in Gaithersburg, MD.
The workshop will highlight the Mutual Recognition Agreements/Arrangements (MRAs) for the conformity assessment of telecommunication equipment that the U.S. government holds with the European Union, European Free Trade Area, Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation, Inter-American Telecommunication Commission, and Japan. These MRAs help assure that telecommunication equipment complies with the regulatory safety and performance requirements of importing countries while facilitating consumer access to the latest technologies and products worldwide.
Attendees will hear insights from regulators and industry representatives from Europe, Asia, and the Americas. These speakers will address the emerging technical regulations, standards, and conformity assessment issues that impact electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements, as well as radio and telecommunications equipment markets around the world.
Reinaldo Figueiredo, program director at the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), will provide attendees with an update on International Organization for Standardization (ISO) / International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Guide 65 revisions. ANSI is also a workshop sponsor.
This three-day workshop will include participation by regulatory authorities, designating authorities, manufacturers, accreditation bodies, test laboratories, and certification bodies. MRA stakeholders and all other interested parties are invited to attend.
The event is free of charge, and registration is required.
