Newton Labs Celebrates its 100th US PWR Core Mapping

Newton Labs is pleased to announce it has now completed its 100th Core Verification Mapping in the US with its NM200E Core Mapping system. Since 2012, when the Newton NM200E was first deployed, Newton has completed its 100th US nuclear Refueling Outages resulting in the savings of over 700 critical path hours. More importantly, the NE200E has eliminated fuel mispositioning, which had been a significant safety concern resulting in stuck and even damaged Fuel Assemblies (FA). The NEI TIP award-winning system has delivered consistency and efficiency that far exceeds previous methodology.Providing core verification and fuel gap measurement for many US major nuclear utilities, Newton’s NM200E system is the primary and most efficient method for core verification in the industry. The NM200E only requires less than one hour above the core. With FA location capabilities in far shorter time than previous methods, the NM200E produces greater accuracy within + 1MM.

Newton also provides site support for the core verification mapping; support that has resulted in many hours of saved outage time. The Newton NM200E removes the possibility for human error in an hour’s time to produce highly accurate and precise data of the location of the FAs.“We are very pleased with the accuracy, efficiency and time savings using the Newton Core Mapping Equipment”, said an industry Corporate Fuel Reliability Manager for one of the utilities that use the system. He went on to say “The time saving over previous methods was truly impressive”.

The NM200E Core Mapping Verification System supports Westinghouse, Areva, Babcock & Wilcox, and Combustion Engineering fuel types; providing all PWR nuclear power stations the timely and accurate benefits that Newton Core Mapping Verification Systems have to offer.

About Newton Labs

Seattle based Newton Labs is a privately held manufacturer of nuclear machine vision, laser scanning, robotics, and optical automation. Newton is the original developer of core verification systems and nuclear underwater laser scanners; both systems won NEI TIP Awards. Newton is also the world’s largest producer of core verification systems and underwater laser scanners. Over its more than 20 year history, Newton Labs has deployed more than 30,000 machine vision, laser scanning, robotic, and automation systems worldwide.
