New York State DEC Cites Garlock Project for Environmental Excellence

Palmyra, N.Y., November 18, 2010 - Garlock Sealing Technologies (GST), an
EnPro Industries company, today received the New York State Department of
Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) Environmental Excellence Award for
replacing a volatile organic compound (VOC) and hazardous air pollutant
(HAP) with a more environmentally friendly solvent in the production of its
industrial gasketing. The award was presented at the annual conference of
the New York State Association of Reduction, Reuse and Recycling (NYSAR3)
at the Otsego Resort Hotel in Cooperstown.

"The awards program honors businesses, not-for-profit organizations,
governments, educational institutions and individuals making great strides in
improving and protecting New York's environment," said Jeffrey J. Sama,
NYSDEC director of environmental permits and pollution prevention. "Through
this awards program, the Department of Environmental Conservation
recognizes innovative projects that result in measurable environmental and
economic benefits."

Begun in 2006, GST's three-year, $3 million solvent-replacement project has
won four other awards: the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's 2009
Clean Air Excellence Award, the National Pollution Prevention Roundtable's
2009 MVP2 Award for Best Pollution Prevention Project, the Environmental
Business Journal's 2009 Air Quality Award, and the Rochester Business
Journal's 2008 Environmental Leadership Award.

"It is particularly gratifying to have our environmental efforts recognized
where we live and work," said GST's President Dale Herold. "It is also
important to note that this project was undertaken on a purely voluntary
basis, as part of EnPro Industries' broad commitment to workplace safety and
responsible environmental stewardship."

The project involved the elimination of an EPA-regulated VOC/HAP from the
manufacture of GST's sheet gasket products, which are used to seal pipe
flanges in a wide range of process industries such as chemicals, oil refining,
pulp and paper, and power generation, among others.

Besides eliminating the regulated emissions, the new solvent improves process
yields and results in gaskets that seal 20% more effectively. In addition, GST
installed a high-efficiency recovery system that captures 95% of the new
solvent for reuse.
