New Blog, "Glass Transforming Light," Responds to Lighting Industry Technical Needs

LEDs and other light sources bring both exciting benefits and complex challenges to lighting engineers. New blog bridges the gap between glass science and innovative new technologies to help create a safer and more productive world.

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania – Kopp Glass, a Pittsburgh-based technical glass manufacturer, launches their new blog, Glass Transforming Light. The blog was created to provide information to lighting engineers who are eager to embrace new technologies but may be struggling to incorporate them into their design process.

Manufacturers are operating on tighter budgets in an effort to realize higher margins. RD budgets have shrunk and as a result; engineering teams may not have the specialized technical or manufacturing experience to address the challenges that arise when using new materials or technologies. They’re looking for answers to questions like:

“Should I use white or colored LEDs to meet FAA or MIL color specifications?”

“What is LED binning and how can I ensure consistent color temperature from lot to lot?”

“I need to achieve the highest efficiency possible – how can I increase the level of transmission from my light fixture?”

In addition, collaboration through the supply chain is often limited and engineers are prohibited from engaging with their suppliers. Without anywhere to turn, they must figure it out internally. Often, this can lead to time-consuming redesigns, extended product development cycles, and increased costs.

As new technologies emerge, there is an ever-growing need for information on how to harness them. The blog, Glass Transforming Light, aims to help fill this information gap.

Introducing: Glass Transforming Light

In the face of continual advancements in lighting technology, materials, and fundamental research, it’s critical to anticipate instead of react to the changes and needs of the market. Kopp Glass developed their blog to share information that will help others be proactive to changing technologies.

At the heart of the blog is a team of passionate and innovative glass scientists and engineers who seek to collaborate to create the best lighting products in the world. Their mission is to make the world safer and more productive through excellence in glass science, collaborative innovation, and the production of glass for unique and demanding applications.

The blog will bridge the gap between glass science and new technological advancements. Twice a month, they will publish articles that:

  • Explain the fundamentals of glass material science, optics and photonics, and other emerging material research.

  • Explore innovative lighting, manufacturing, and material fabrication technologies.

  • Share real-world applications that are creating a better and brighter world.

  • Comment on industry developments and news.
