New Blade Hall at Gas Turbine Plant

On May 28, 2009, Siemens dedicated a new hall for blade production at its Berlin gas turbine plant. By 2011, a total of 200 jobs will have been created. The addition of this new hall has enlarged the production area by 3,100 square meters. The new building will be used primarily for the machining of turbine guide blades. The dedication ceremony was attended by the Chairman of the Managing Board of Siemens AG, Peter Löscher, and Federal Minister of Economics and Technology, Dr. Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg. Up until now, Siemens has invested EUR 14 million in the construction and equipping of the building. An additional outlay of EUR 4.5 million will see the acquisition of new machine tools. The hall was constructed in accordance with the so-called green building process - an especially resource-conserving and environmentally friendly construction process - making it virtually carbon-neutral.
