NEMA Welcomes Bipartisan House Approval of USMCA

ROSSLYN, Va., December 20, 2019—The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) praised the U.S. House of Representatives for passing legislation to implement the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) in a bipartisan 385-41 vote on December 19.

“USMCA modernizes a key platform for the global competitiveness of NEMA Members and the U.S. electrical manufacturing industry,” said NEMA President and CEO Kevin J. Cosgriff. “We look forward to the final steps of legislative action to bring USMCA into force.”

Negotiations for the new trade agreement concluded in October 2018. In early December 2019, additional USMCA commitments were agreed by the U.S., Mexico, and Canada, enabling timely House consideration of implementing the legislation by Congress. The Senate is expected to consider the legislation, which may not be amended, in early 2020. The date of entry into force of USMCA is to be determined
