Smart Grid Standards Publication Defines Requirements for Smart Meter Firmware Upgradeability

NEMA SG-AMI 1 Requirements for Smart Meter Upgradeability defines requirements that include secure, local, and remote upgrades of smart meters:

  • Metrology
  • Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) applications
  • AMI communications
  • Home Area Network (HAN) applications
  • HAN communications

After technical review, today the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) reaffirmed the relevance of this standard for use by electricity meter manufacturers and electric utilities.

NEMA SG-AMI 1-2009 (R2015) is available in hard copy for $63 or as an electronic download at no cost on the NEMA website.
