NEMA Releases Revised Electrical Equipment Enclosure Standards with New Test Methods

Revised Standard for Electrical Equipment Enclosures Features New Test Methods, Protection Requirements

ROSSLYN, Va., January 15, 2019—The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) revised NEMA 250-2018 Enclosures for Electrical Equipment (1000 Volts Maximum)a Standard that covers enclosures for electrical equipment rated not more than 1000 V and intended to be installed and used for non-hazardous (unclassified) locations and hazardous (classified) locations.

Changes to this edition of NEMA 250 include enclosure types 7 and 9 for hazardous/classified locations as permitted by the National Electrical Code®, pressure wash ancillary ratings, a high-pressure power wash test, revisions to enclosure types, and revised outdoor corrosion protection requirements.

These latest changes include a pressure wash test method that provides the industry with a location to go to for the test method, revised outdoor corrosion protection requirements and revisions to enclosure types. With these changes, NEMA 250 continues to be a useful tool for the industry,” said Garrett Rettig, Project Engineer II at Allied Moulded Products, NEMA Enclosures (05EN) Section Chairman.
