NEMA publishes dimensional specifications for wiring devices.

Apr 19, 2016 - NEMA published ANSI/NEMA WD 6-2016 Wiring Devices—Dimensional Specifications, which covers dimensional requirements for plugs and receptacles rated up to 60 A and 600 V, including dimensions for wall plates. Standard also covers plugs, receptacles, and wall plates used in most electrical installations in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. Originally developed in 2012, two new configurations were added to offer increased safety for IT and datacenter applications.

NEMA Publishes ANSI/NEMA WD 6-2016 Wiring Devices-Dimensional Specifications

ROSSLYN, Va., —The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) published ANSI/NEMA WD 6-2016 Wiring Devices—Dimensional Specifications. This standard covers dimensional requirements for plugs and receptacles rated up to 60 amperes and 600 volts, including dimensions for wall plates. It also covers the plugs, receptacles, and wall plates used in most electrical installations in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. An online version includes configuration tables that are linked with their respective drawings for easier navigation.

Originally developed in 2012, two new configurations were added to offer increased safety for IT and datacenter applications and one configuration was modified.

Also changed as part of the transfer of the document to an autoCAD support were

revised dimensioning format for “reference” (REF) and “typical” (TYP) dimensions to meet latest ANSI drafting standard, and
revised configuration dimensions to simplify the relationship between plug and connector for insertion and locking positions.
