NEFI CEO Jack Sullivan Announces Retirement

Watertown, Mass. - Jack Sullivan, Executive Vice President and CEO of the New England Fuel Institute (NEFI) has announced his retirement, effective March 31, 2007.

Jack assumed his role at the nation's leading regional Oilheat organization in 1995. He has directed NEFI and its companion Education Foundation to positions of prominence and respect within the entire Oilheat industry. He has excelled at legislative oversight on Oilheat's behalf in his ability to form numerous coalitions, often among disparate interests, in order to maintain the continued viability of Oilheat in New England and elsewhere.

During his tenure Mr. Sullivan frequently represented the Oilheat interests of New England in testimony before Senate and House Committees whose rulemaking on energy, transportation, and small business issues can prove critical to the well being of businesses and consumers.

There is little question in the minds of Oilheat executives, managers, and active supporters of the Oilheat industry that the National Oilheat Research Alliance (NORA) would not exist today were it not for the initiative taken by Mr. Sullivan when he introduced the "checkoff" concept to a trade audience at Brookhaven National Laboratory over eleven years ago.

He was able to unite Oilheat's many marketers and policymakers, transforming ideas, handshakes, and a grasp of the process into an unparalleled force. Success came with passage of NORA legislation by both houses of Congress and Presidential approval. This effort was followed by an extensive campaign to secure virtually unanimous approval by Oilheat distributors voting in twenty-two states and the District of Columbia that are now the constituents of the Alliance. NORA now raises upward of $12 million annually that is dedicated to consumer information, education and technical training, and Oilheat research and development. Jack has served as the Secretary of the Alliance since its inception.

Mr. Sullivan made his retirement announcement public at the October 26 board meeting of the New England Fuel Institute. A search committee, chaired by Ed Scott, Scott Oil Co., Manchester, Mass., has been created to post notice of the position opening and evaluate candidates to succeed Mr. Sullivan.

He presently serves as Executive Vice President and CEO of NEFI, the NEFI Education Foundation, and the New England School of Business. He is a member of the Board of Directors of NORA, PMAA, Associated Industries of Massachusetts, and is a member of the New England Council and the Energy and Environment Council.

Jack Sullivan was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. He and his wife Anne have resided in Waltham, Massachusetts for over 45 years and have six children. Educated at Boston College, he served two Waltham mayoral administrations early in his career as Administrative Assistant and Deputy Mayor. He was named Waltham's Outstanding Man of the Year for his many community services and was nominated for the same honor for the entire state.

Jack is known for his extensive charitable activities, too numerous to cite here, save one example. An avid saltwater fisherman, he organized NEFI's Salt Water Fishing Tourney with all proceeds donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
