NEFAB Introduces Environmental Impact Calculator
Nefab strives to be a leading Green industrial packaging partner, reducing the environmental impact of production, as well as the transport and waste disposal needed.
This year Nefab launched a new Environmental Impact Calculator, GreenCALC, designed to optimize Green efficiency in all phases of industrial packaging: production, transport and waste disposal.
In development since 2010, GreenCALC is a software tool that allows Nefab’s engineers to measure the environmental impact of any packaging solution. It analyzes and models a complete logistical flow of production, transport and waste for its eco-conscious partners according to several impact categories. Nefab’s partners can then add this data to their own analysis and make the most informed choices.
Additionally, GreenCALC analyzes and highlights areas of improvement from the standpoint of a cost to eco-benefit ratio. These can be assessed in the production or transport phase by optimizing packaging logistics and design.
One example is the assessment of the inbound flow to a Vehicle OEM. The analysis included a comparison between one way corrugated boxes and a Nefab returnable packaging solution. The customer was transporting 24,500 tons of wires and cables every year. The shipments were transported by truck, at a distance of 1,240 km.
Upon completing the GreenCALC assessment, the customer realized impressive results: CO2 decreased by 3,000 tons and waste was reduced by 1,650 tons. 4,200 trees were saved, and over 95,000 cubic feet of water
